We are now at a place in tech where because the show is finished we’re able to work on more normal rehearsal stuff. It’s really relieving to be in a place where I feel like we could go onstage in front of an audience tomorrow and do a pretty good job. I in no way mean that there is not more work we can do and things we can refine, but we are in a very good place for tech week and I’m enjoying just taking the extra time to do more character and point of view work. Today we used that extra time we have been gifted to once again explore a speed through to see where we may be too liberal with time. I focused more on what I learned from the first speed through, still being very deliberate about my lines and not talking faster than my mouth can move and instead finding the moments where I could cut time by adding less space and beats within my lines. One of the things that Marc said during rehearsal that stuck with me and that I hope to take with me in further rehearsals is that it takes no time for us to think in real life situations, so there’s no need to add space for those moments where we are thinking as our character. There are still moments where we have built in pauses for emphasis, but there is a lot of the space that isn’t as essential and I want to be more conscious in the next few days of what unnecessary space I am building into my lines and how I might be able to consolidate my actions to make them more effective.
