Performance Reflections

September 28

Today was a two show day. While I had this experience with Matilda, this was the first experience doing two traditional shows in one day. One of the things I was nervous about going in was the heaviness of the show and how that might affect me emotionally. I also woke up with a headache and a sore throat that morning (my allergy meds need replacing) so I was very conscious of taking care of myself for this day. Overall, I think I did a good job. I had a headache through the two shows, but I was working at the highest capacity that I could with this in mind. It didn’t seem overly stressful for me to do two shows in one day, which I think is a good metric for how well I took care of myself and prioritized my mental health outside of the performances. I also have had a few tough moments the past few days with other actors giving me notes and feeding me lines onstage which I was hesitant to talk about in the journals, but after approaching stage management about the issue it has been resolved and I have been more engaged in the action of the show now that I am not taken out of the world during the show.
